Diagnosis

Successful implant treatment depends on proper diagnosis. The diagnosis includes identifying the proper location for the implants, determining the amount of bone available to hold the implants, and assessing the patients’ overall health. The most valuable tool for this is CBCT (cone beam computed tomography), which is used to obtain 3 dimensional information of the area to be implanted.

Treatment

Implants are used to support various restorations, including individual crowns, bridges, dentures, and any combination thereof. The options used will depend on individual needs.

Implant Surgery

The procedure is a relatively delicate surgery, which tends to minimize post-surgical discomfort compared to other types of dental surgeries. Bone grafting may be part of the surgical treatment, depending on the amount of patients’ own available bone. If the implant sites are deficient, grafting will be needed to increase the volume of bone to hold the implants before further surgery can be conducted.

Maintenance

Your implants are maintained similarly as your real teeth, through regular brushing, flossing, and dental exams. In most cases, no special maintenance is required.

Implant Restoration

Losing a tooth can be exciting for a child, but it’s a traumatic experience for an adult! Fortunately, implant restorations can be used to fill the gap where your tooth used to be.

Implants are designed to mimic your original teeth as closely as possible. At the base is a titanium root which secures the restoration to your jaw bone, just as a tooth’s natural root would. A restoration is crafted to match your other teeth in shape and color, and is then affixed to the root directly or to a connecting piece called the abutment. Because the titanium root fuses so closely with your bone, the new restoration becomes a natural looking, permanent part of your smile.

Implant Supported Dentures

Over the years, conventional dentures can become loose; this is because the bone in the residual ridge, which supports them, begins to shrink as you age. But did you know that you can get dentures that don’t fall out? By getting implant supported dentures, you don’t have to worry about adhesives or cleaning solutions; you just treat them like your natural teeth! With dental implants, these dentures are fastened to titanium roots planted firmly in your jaw bone. This makes them permanent and extremely durable. They look, feel, and function just like natural teeth, making them an ideal solution for patients in need of multiple dental restorations. The implants also slow down the shrinkage of the bone, thus help to preserve the remaining ridge.
